The purpose of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Internship program is to provide students of undergraduate GIS-related studies with professional GIS experience in a public sector organization. This internship position will support citywide GIS from the Information Technology (IT) department. This program is intended to provide part-time employment in the GIS field. Upon the student’s graduation and completion of the GIS internship, the student should have received adequate training and experience necessary for an entry-level GIS job.
SUPERVISION
This position reports to the GIS Analysts and Data Quality Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK
The GIS intern is expected to:
Perform entry level GIS work, including the creation and maintenance of GIS data within ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
Assist in data clean-up and data quality testing
Assist in producing printed and virtual maps for stakeholders
Assist in troubleshooting stakeholders' issues and training
Assist with creating and updating project documents and instructions
Perform other related tasks as assigned
Careful review and attention to detail is a must
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
The applicant must be currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate degree program such as Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Science, or other related fields. Applicants must have prior hands-on experience in ArcGIS applications. Must have effective time management and demonstrated ability to meet project deadlines and goals with minimal supervision.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is a part-time internship position.
The position will require occasional travel within the municipality for field data collection and meetings with departments.
