Definition

Under general supervision, is responsible for the issuance of parking violation tickets and properly identifying motor vehicles eligible for impoundment or immobilization; performs related duties as required.

Examples of Work

(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)

Patrols assigned areas throughout the City on foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle;

Issues parking violation tickets for motor vehicles with meter non-payment infractions in designated areas of the City;

Reviews a prescribed list of Parking Infraction Violators in order to properly identify those motor vehicles eligible for impoundment and/or immobilization;

Issues parking violation tickets for motor vehicles failing to register or display proper vehicle registration or licenses plates;

Issues parking violation tickets for motor vehicles parked in prohibited parking or stopping zones or in unauthorized areas of the City;

Issues parking violation tickets for motor vehicles parked in permit parking zones without valid permits or valid payment;

Responds to questions from the general public and motor vehicle operators concerning the issuance of parking violation tickets;

Prepares Impounded Vehicle Inventory forms and gives to the applicable Tow Truck Operator before towing when necessary;

Communicates with Parking Violation Bureau Office to obtain additional information concerning the proper identification and status of specific motor vehicles;

Operates a mobile handheld device and license plate recognition hardware and software for the purposes of issuing tickets;

Operates a two-way radio to communicate with supervisors and coworkers in the field;

Makes appropriate notifications to report damaged or inoperable parking meters and/or missing parking restriction signage, and utilizes meter hoods as directed;

May give testimony in court and/or the adjudication process concerning the issuance of parking violation tickets.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of the twelfth school grade and one (1) year of experience in customer service or public contact, conflict resolution, general office related experience, or de-escalation tactics. Substitution(s): A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of the twelfth school grade completion requirement.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a NEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list, and will replace the names on the current list. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. The examination process will consist of a multiple-choice examination administered on the computer, weighted 60% covering memorization, logic and reasoning, public relations, and name and number comparison; and a written work sample examination weighted 40% covering forms completion.

Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.

All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
