About the Position:

The Chief Medical Officer is a key member of the Core Management Team of the Health Services of Aga Khan University Hospital, Pakistan, engaged in defining the overall strategy and direction of the organisation. As an Associate Dean Clinical Affairs, the incumbent will serve as a key member of the leadership team of the Medical College.

The position provides medical oversight, expertise and leadership to ensure the delivery of affordable and high-quality healthcare services. Responsibilities also include strategy development and implementation of innovative clinical programmes that require collaboration with strategic partners within or outside the University and the Health Services.

The CMO will lead the overall clinical vision for the organisation and provide clinical direction to departments of the University Hospital to ensure delivery of affordable and high-quality healthcare services.

Job Role / Responsibilities:

Oversight of credentialing and privileging of faculty through application of relevant policies and chairing the Credentialing Committee.

Ensuring that every faculty has a plan to attain the required privileges and is well executed in practice.

Evaluating and adjusting policies according to international standards and best practices.

Oversight of medical records review, accreditations and certifications, especially Joint Commission International Accreditation and other accrediting bodies.

Creating a strong academic and service milieu across all campuses and areas of Health Services, Pakistan.

Oversight of prevention and control of infection, to mitigate, develop and implement processes resulting in operational effectiveness.

Bringing improvement of patient experience and oversight of patient care related events, monitoring and resolution of patient complaints, critical incidents and sentinel events as per the institutions’ policies. To provide guidance on correction of care-related events, development of patient care processes resulting in operational effectiveness.

Looking after risk management and medico-legal issues. Including measurement and monitoring of clinical outcomes.

Ensuring quality of bedside teaching, 24/7 coverage of medical care through coordination with and guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Fostering undergraduate medical education and coordinate from a service perspective with the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education, the Curriculum Committee and other committees of the Medical College related to undergraduate education.

Promoting postgraduate education, including internship, residency and fellowship programmes and coordinate from a service perspective with the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education.

Eligibility Criteria / Requirements:

Medical degree preferably with MBBS from a recognized institution.

A valid, medical license (PMDC).

A clinical faculty member holding an academic rank of Associate Professor and above, with minimum 10 years of clinical experience in a hospital setting including 5 years in a leadership role.

Exposure and experience of clinical risk management and safety protocols would be an added advantage.

Strategic and innovative thinker with proven ability to communicate a vision and drive results.

A demonstrable track record in forging physician/management relations.

Meets productivity standards and performs duties as workload necessitates.

A positive and respectful attitude with all work-related contacts.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build consensus.

Noticeable skills in engaging physicians and finding synergies; an interactive style which is pleasant.

Experience of working within a fast-paced and complex environment driving change within large organisations.
