Information Technology Camera Technician
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to provide technical assistance and support to the Information Technology Department and Police Department Real Time Crime unit. To provide installation, network access, control, troubleshooting and repair for cameras, camera systems, connections, hardware and software and peripherals associated with the city’s camera system.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs daily operations and administration of the City's real time crime system. Provides user support to police, real time crime center employees, and city staff. Identifies and resolves problems to restore service to users in a timely and efficient manner. Designs new or modifies existing configurations to meet users' needs. Ensures that camera equipment and operations are in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and rules.
Troubleshoots end-user problems; responds to initial on-site requests for assistance and resolves problems; escalates problem to vendors or other personnel as appropriate; ensures continual operations of customers' software applications; utilizes diagnostic tools and other resources as appropriate.
Installs and maintains personal computer hardware/software, cameras, antennas, repeaters or associated camera equipment; assures availability and proper operation of products for installation; schedules installations; converts old system data to new system; tests installed products per city standards; completes installations and conversions in timely manner and with minimal disruption to customer; provides initial training to customers on new products as needed.
Administers and supports a variety of computer programs and networks related to the real time crime center; researches related computer systems, software, and technology security issues; develops solutions for security breaches; makes recommendations to Police Department and Information Technology management.
Assists in providing budgetary input for technology expenditures for city camera/real time crime systems.
Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures: ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
Prepares and runs a variety of reports from system programs to include status reports on systems projects, including but not limited to ad hoc reports, utility reports, and inspection schedules.
Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, logs, graphs, technical support documentation, publications, policies, procedures, Internet websites, manuals, catalogs, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, vendors, service providers, system users, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction related to real time crime systems.
Maintains an awareness of new applications, technologies, technical methods, trends, and advances in the profession: reviews professional publications, technical manuals, and websites to increase knowledge of computer operations; attends staff meetings, vendor demonstrations, conferences, workshops, seminars and training sessions as appropriate.
Operates personal computers, laptop computers, network systems, servers, printers, hubs, routers, general office equipment, mechanic stools, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, Internet, operating systems, or other programs; maintains familiarity with various applications utilized by police and law enforcement departments in order to troubleshoot hardware/software problems as it pertains to police camera/real time systems.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Operates bucket truck in traffic congested area.
May require climbing ladders and poles to install and/or repair equipment.
Performs other duties as required, requested and assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Vocational/Technical degree with training emphasis in computer technology, network communications, computer repair, and programming with two (2) years of experience in hardware/software diagnostics/repair and software applications preferred; or a combination of high school diploma and industry standard certifications such as A+, ITF+, Network+, Security+, CCNA, MCP, MTA, MCSE in conjunction with (2) years of experience in hardware/software diagnostics/repair and software applications.
Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is heavy work. The employee is constantly required to move objects applying up to 20 pounds of force; frequently required to apply 30 pounds of force to move objects; and occasionally required to exert up to 100 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally requires: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing voices and distinguishing among sounds, kneeling, lifting, manual dexterity, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, expressing ideas by the spoken word and shouting to be heard above ambient noise, visual acuity in data/color/observations/operating equipment/inspect defects or measurements, and walking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors where essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as machinery, electric currents, or traffic hazards and may require exposure to heights (i.e., bucket truck, roof tops, and utility poles). Work is performed in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to co-workers or others.
