Job Summary of the Operations Manager: The Operations Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of a manufacturing facility located in the Ames, Iowa area. The individual in this role will be responsible for ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and
continuous improvement in the manufacturing of products. You will be responsible for managing a diverse team, optimizing operational processes, and implementing strategies that enhance productivity, ensure quality, and support business growth.
Job Duties & Responsibilities of the Operations Manager:
• Provide operational leadership for assigned value streams, ensuring performance targets are met across cost, delivery, quality, and safety metrics.
• Support and assist in the implementation of efficient manufacturing and warehouse operations, utilizing ERP systems to streamline processes, manage inventory, and ensure accurate data management.
• Drive throughput initiatives to maximize productivity and minimize lead time, ensuring customer orders are fulfilled on time and to specification.
• Manage and develop a team of both hourly and salaried employees, setting clear expectations, providing training and development opportunities, and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
• Regularly review performance data to identify trends, anticipate issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.
• In partnership with the Quality team, oversee quality and delivery standards and compliance for assigned value streams.
• Proactively identify and resolve process or material-related issues impacting product quality.
• Promote and enforce a safe working environment, adhering to all safety regulations and best practices.
Education & Experience Requirements of the Operations Manager:
• Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in operations management within a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
• Demonstrated experience with LEAN continuous improvement methodologies, with a track record of successful implementation and tangible results.
• Proven experience managing metrics preferred.
• Familiarity with quality assurance practices and product compliance standards.
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing both hourly and salaried team members.
• Proficiency in ERP systems and a strong understanding of how to leverage technology to improve operational efficiencies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of motivating and leading a team toward achieving operational excellence.
