Quality Control Technician 1
Department: Quality/Regulatory, Solutions
Location: Full-Time
Type: Full-Time
Primary responsibilities concern daily Quality Control activities associated with material sampling, testing and product verification. Complete short and long-term projects and participate in various trainings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Perform sampling of inbound raw materials & packaging for Solutions and Flavors divisions according to procedures. Monitor inbound materials dashboard to complete all sampling in a timely manner. Communicate with Scheduling to meet deadlines.
Perform physical and organoleptic testing on all raw materials, including FTIR and Particle Size Analysis. Verify that all characteristics match specifications.
Prepare samples for third party testing. Coordinate all customer specific testing. Review and interpret third party testing data for approval.
Review, and store general Quality documentation, such as Certificates of Analysis. Review inbound materials and documents against standard documentation.
Enter all test results into the Electronic Lab Notebook. Record all observations and testing information on testing forms. Review and store completed testing forms. Draft deviation request forms for minor product issues.
Store and retrieve retained materials and documents as needed for samples and investigations.
Perform additional product sampling to support R&D, Customer Service, or Quality investigations. Understand product locations and statuses in the ERP system.
Notify supervisor of non-conforming products or deviations to procedures. Communicate regarding product status with Operations and Procurement.
Maintain order and appropriate labelling of the Quarantine area. Place non-conforming materials on Hold with correct labelling and documentation.
Assist Quality Management on investigating issues and applying corrective and preventative actions as instructed.
Abide by all Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety programs. Must be able to monitor area and tasks for adherence to food safety.
Operate testing instrumentation in a safe and professional manner. This includes FTIR, particle size analyzer and balances.
Exhibit the necessary behaviors of Prinova’s core value Commitment to Quality: Attention to detail, follow proper procedures, and ensure all products comply with the necessary quality standards.
Ensure compliance standards with food safety, food defense, and food quality. (FDA, ILDPH, FSMA and BRC).

Required Education and/or Experience:
Associates or Bachelor’s degree in scientific discipline preferred or high school diploma with 1+ years related experience.

Previous experience in Quality, Food, or Laboratory settings
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize tasks and communicate timely and effectively on issues
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Familiarity or general aptitude for inventory systems is preferred

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to lift 55 lbs. repeatedly
Work environment is split between a laboratory, warehouse, and office
Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
Must be able to wear any required PPE such as safety shoes, hair net, lab coat, safety glasses and respirator.
Ability to work in a laboratory with a moderate powder substance in the air
Other physical requirements include frequent squatting, bending, twisting, and bi-lateral wrist movement
Must have the ability to safely handle warehouse equipment
Ability to work around a variety of different smells and aromas
Ability to adjust work schedule as business needs require.
Ability to view a computer screen and type for extended periods of time.
