Position Description: We are seeking a dedicated, collegial, and experienced Instructional Designer in the North Institute for Teaching and Learning. The vision of “The North Institute for Teaching and Learning promotes excellence in practicing pedagogy and educational technology. This position reports to the Director of the North Institute. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Director of the North Institution and University and Academic
Leaders to communicate and implement the vision for instructional design and support that serves as the foundation of pedagogical excellence.
Understand and implement educational technology appropriate to achieving university and academic goals.
Regularly meet with Deans, Faculty, and other stakeholders to identify and design a strategy to meet the needs of individual departments and programs.
Continually update and improve Faculty onboarding, especially with regards to usage of all educational technology tools available.
Train Faculty in the use of all available educational technology tools.
Work closely with the Director of the North Institute and campus IT to identify and offload tools that are out-of-date or no longer used or relevant.
Possess expertise on Learning Management systems, in particular those currently used by campus stakeholders such as Blackboard.
Assist Faculty as they develop and continually improve courses, helping them expand familiarity with features associated with the LMS and tools available to them.
Offer training opportunities such as Lunch and Learns and other interactive sessions to Faculty and campus stakeholders.
Establish and implement standards that are in compliance with accessibility requirements for videos and other instructional materials.
Possess expertise on current educational best practices and trends, instructional delivery, and technology implementation in content delivery.
Work in conjunction with the Director to develop a system for periodic review of courses to occur every three years.
Prepare reports and assist with meeting accreditation requirements as necessary.
Participate in professional development opportunities for employees of the North Institute.
Remain at the forefront of industry and academic best practices, instructional strategy, and learning theory.
Serve on university committees as assigned
Working with the Director, send periodic email communication to faculty and staff regarding trends in instruction, use of educational tools and resources and other topics of interest.
Solve issues/tickets submitted by faculty and other stakeholders.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) preferred.
Proven experience in instructional design and educational technology.
Strong understanding of Learning Management Systems, including but not limited to Blackboard.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
Ability to build rapport, establish trust, and maintain positive relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, and other university stakeholders.
Strong leadership, visionary, organizational, and time management skills.
Passion for pedagogical excellence and a sincere desire to serve faculty, administration, staff, and other university stakeholders.
Experience working in higher education.
Willingness to listen, learn, and continually grow and improve.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Various certifications in educational technology and tools
Experience teaching at the university level.
