Role Summary

The primary function of this role is to:

Undertake heater tube and pipeline inspection projects

Produce technical reports for clients

Plan & prepare for projects including maintenance, calibration & repair of equipment

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Your role has multiple facets and can be considered to include the following. These is not an exhaustive list but is indicative of the need and expectation:

Inspection Technician

Grade 1

General Office Duties:

Adhere to current ISO & API standards

Calibration of inspection equipment

General maintenance of inspection equipment (basic mechanical & electronic)

Continued technical training/CPD

Repairs and manufacture of inspection tools

Testing functionality of inspection tools on the test loop

Contribution towards technology development

Assistance in the decoking department on an as needed basis

Site Operation Duties:

Ultrasonic inspection of heater coils and pipelines using bespoke smart pigging technology

Mechanical decoking of heater coils and pipelines

Set-up of mechanical decoking equipment on site

Data analysis

Technical report writing

Additionally for Grade 2

Fully competent and knowledgeable in all aspects of inspection

Capable of undertaking more complex projects & problem solving on site

Mentor Grade 1 inspectors

Additionally for Grade 3

Display leadership ability and technical competency to successfully supervise a project from start to completion

Conduct pre-deployment planning:

o Ensure correctness and sufficiency with intelligent pig stock requirements & all other machinery

o Complete data base preparation

o Liaise with Operations Planner & appropriate Manager for travel and hotel arrangements

o Organizing inspection members to attend any safety inductions and to perform the work safely, explain shift patterns, refinery safety requirements and procedures

Give clear and high-quality instructions during handovers to all colleagues

Interface with clients and their representatives on site

Promote good organizational and management skills (including cross checking the operations of Grade 2 and Grade 1 inspectors)

Overseeing trouble shooting and on-site repair of equipment

Presenting inspection results to senior refinery personnel or other client groups

Additionally for Supervisors

Deputizing for Operations Manager in his absence

Support the continued testing & development of inspection analysis software and associated programs, working alongside technology colleagues and external consultancy companies where appropriate.

Implementation and daily management of Inspection recording, monitoring, training and ordering systems & forms.

Update of departmental marketing material.

Monitoring team training levels and ensuring all bespoke training documentation is updated.

Assisting with prequalification, tenders & quotations as necessary.

Attending sales/commercial trips as needed

Support performance reviews and team development as needed

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent

TWIC Card

Computer literate in Microsoft Office

Pass drug screening and background check

Suitable level of qualification in an inspection or engineering field such as PCN or ASNT level 2 desirable

Read and write in English

Key skills, experience & abilities

Substantial experience operating in a technical industrial environment

Mechanical or electrical engineering skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Able to operate in challenging on-site conditions (e.g. temperature or humidity), maintaining focus & working capability

Ability to read & interpret technical drawings

Understanding of electrical fault diagnosis and/or mechanical systems - desirable

2nd language skills - desirable
