Automation and Controls Engineer
Location: New Albany, IN
Type: Direct Hire
Compensation: $95,000 – $140,000
We are currently partnering with a highly respected manufacturing client in New Albany, IN. to assist them in the hiring of two skilled Controls Engineers for full-time, direct hire positions. These roles go beyond traditional PLC programming and will play a critical part in developing advanced automation and control systems for continuous cable manufacturing. Summary:
The Controls Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of control system solutions for automated manufacturing equipment. This includes both new system development and upgrades to existing processes used in continuous cable manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement reliable and standardized control system platforms
Collaborate with process and manufacturing engineering to define system functional requirements
Specify components such as motors, drives, sensors, actuators, and motion controllers
Develop and revise electrical schematics
Program PLCs, HMI/SCADA systems, motion controllers, and servo drives
Start up and debug control systems for new and upgraded equipment
Provide project management support for both new builds and upgrades
Support and troubleshoot production machines and control systems
Tune motion systems, PID loops, and temperature control systems
Develop standardization strategies for control system design and software
Update existing PLC and HMI programs to support equipment enhancements
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of experience in controls engineering within a manufacturing setting
Hands-on experience with motion systems, servo and stepper motors, temperature control, and sensors
Strong skills in motion controller and operator interface programming (Ignition and/or Red Lion preferred)
Proficient in PLC programming using IEC 61131-3 languages
Familiarity with software development environments and industrial networking protocols (MODBUS TCP, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT)
Capable of reading and creating electrical schematics
Understanding of UL508A, NFPA 79, NEMA, and machine safety standards
Ability to manage resources and timelines for project execution
Strong verbal and written technical communication skills
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related discipline
