Job Description
A nationwide commercial construction company is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator. In our unique business model, we produce our estimates in response to invites to bid from current and past clients.
This important position is responsible for successfully bidding commercial renovation construction projects that encompass several trades. Duties include collecting and analyzing project information and requests for proposals. Prepares cost estimates, take-offs, bids and proposals based upon project specifics that are typically sent to us in document format. This includes identifying project timelines and probable costs of materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, drawings, and other specifications. Although rare, they may also perform project site visits to gather information. This position has high interaction with internal and external stakeholders. It requires strong communication skills, strong organizational skills, high accuracy, a keen eye for details, in a fast-paced environment.
Reviews pre-bid activities and performs cost estimates for construction projects as assigned. Performs bid document review and completion; take offs; and bid prep. Requires a highly professional and organized individual who can work in a fast-paced construction business environment. Also interacts with potential new vendors, subcontractors and clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications to determine scope of work
Perform quantity take-offs and formulate material costs
Solicitation of bids and prepare detailed estimates for projects, including material and labor
Send RFPs to vendors and accumulate bids
Maintain project related documents such as bid list, contractual agreements and RFP's
Assist and collaborate with Project Management staff in post contract award phase
Although rare, the ability to travel on occasion to attend site visits
Will assist in the maintenance of the Estimating database with current pricing, adding new items on a quarterly basis or more frequently as needed
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extensive experience with take-off software
Extensive experience or exposure to reading blueprints and integrating written scope
This position requires the ability to work long periods of sitting while working on the computer.
Strong MS Office skills, specifically Project, Excel, Word and Adobe
Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong math skills
Prior knowledge of project management systems
Organized, efficient and reliable
Ability to stay on track with frequent interruptions
Ability to prioritize tasks and multi-task effectively
Ability to complete assignments under tight deadlines
Ability to effectively respond to questions regarding bids

5+ years of progressive related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Extensive knowledge of construction, materials, construction jargon, costing, and scheduling
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have working knowledge of Take-off software; Database software; Project Scheduling software; and Spreadsheet softwareCompany Description
