Job Description:
The Employee Relations Advisor will serve as a key partner in addressing workplace issues, facilitating performance-related conversations, and conducting investigations. This role provides guidance to both staff and supervisors on a wide range of employee relations topics, including disciplinary processes, accommodations, policy interpretation, and workplace conflict resolution. Additionally, this position supports research on employment law changes and contributes to HR projects and training efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as the main point of contact for workplace matters including performance coaching, policy guidance, and conflict resolution
Conduct investigations and produce thorough documentation on findings
Collaborate with leadership to support the ADA accommodation process, including coordinating requests and facilitating the interactive process
Assist in addressing employee complaints or grievances by guiding parties through proper procedures and facilitating resolution when appropriate
Research evolving employment legislation and HR best practices, particularly in university or nonprofit environments
Support internal policy updates and help develop HR training materials
Contribute to broader HR initiatives and departmental projects as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred
3–6 years of experience in employee relations or employment law
Previous experience in higher education or nonprofit environments preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Familiarity with HR systems such as Workday or ServiceNow is a plus
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality and navigate sensitive matters
Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
Collaborative approach and comfort working across departments at various levels
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Able to prioritize and manage multiple complex tasks independently
