Job Summary:

The Plant Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the facility, ensuring the production of safe, high-quality water in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This position serves as a team leader for plant operators and maintenance personnel, providing guidance and technical expertise while promoting a safe and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Oversight:

· Perform daily operations necessary to continuously run the water treatment plant, including filtration, chemical dosing, and pressing sludge.

· Monitor and adjust equipment and controls to maintain optimal plant performance.

· Conduct routine inspections of equipment and processes to ensure compliance with operational standards.

· Maintains treatment plant systems.

· Samples discharge outfall periodically for NPDES compliance.

· Supervises the operation, backwashing and cleaning of treatment equipment.

· Inspects, service, operate and repair components of plant including pipes, valves, pumps, meters, water storage vessels and other process equipment.

· Supervises and schedules the activities of auxiliary staff and subcontractors.

Team Leadership:

· Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to support staff and contractors.

· Assign tasks, monitor work progress, and ensure team adherence to safety protocols.

· Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and operational guidelines.

This position will report to the Regional HSE Director.

Regulatory Compliance:

· Collect water samples and perform field laboratory analyses to monitor water quality.

· Maintain accurate records of plant operations, including logs, reports, and data required for regulatory compliance.

· Ensure compliance with all environmental and public health regulations, including those set by the West Virginia department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP).

Equipment Maintenance:

· Coordinate routine and preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure reliability and longevity.

· Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and collaborate with maintenance teams to resolve issues.

· Maintain an inventory of critical supplies, chemicals, and replacement parts.

Emergency Response:

· Respond promptly to plant emergencies, including equipment failures and water quality incidents.

· Lead the team in implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime and maintain service quality.

Collaboration & Communication:

· Work closely with management, engineers, and other departments to support operational goals.

· Provide updates on plant performance and identify areas for improvement.

· Represent the plant during audits, inspections, and public inquiries as needed.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

· High school diploma or equivalent;

· Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in water treatment plant operations, including lead or supervisory experience.

· Experience in acid mine drainage a plus.

Licenses & Certifications:

· Additional certifications in water treatment or safety management are a plus.

· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Skills & Competencies:

· Strong knowledge of water treatment processes, equipment, and regulatory standards.

· An extremely high level of mechanical aptitude is required for this position.

· Leadership and team management skills, with the ability to train and mentor staff effectively.

· Analytical and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting operational issues.

· Able to climb ladders.

· Able to work in all weather conditions.

· Competence operating a skid steer.

Work Environment:

· Work is performed on-site in a water treatment plant environment with exposure to chemicals, noise, and various weather conditions.

· Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting objects up to 50 pounds.

· Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations.
