Job Description

Goal:

To support the school health program, maintain quality and consistency at all branches, and ensure compliance with state and federal school health requirements, while providing Christ-centered care to students and staff. We are seeking a full-time school nurse to support our Elementary school locations. We are also looking for a part-time school nurse to add to our staff.

Professional Requirements

Holds a current nursing license (RN) and CPR certification.

Working knowledge of basic first-aid.

Attend annual School Nurse Health Update conference or similar Continuing Education Courses

Maintains current knowledge of school health issues, law changes, and best practices through professional journals and publications.

Core ResponsibilitiesHealth Program Management

Support the school health program across assigned campuses, ensuring consistency in policies and procedures.

Maintain and submit immunization records and reports to the Ohio Department of Health for all students.

Ensure first-aid policies are posted and supplies are well-stocked.

Supervise the administration, documentation, and secure storage of medications.

Maintain student health records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.

Ensure that Staffcare and Preschool Physician Reports are current.Health Screenings and Compliance

Administer and record health screenings for vision, hearing, scoliosis, and blood pressure per grade-level requirements.

Communicate screening results to administration, teachers, and parents, and provide follow-up on screening referrals.

Manage and monitor compliance with OSHA standards, including bloodborne pathogen training.

Submit screening reports as required by state law.

Conduct staff training on first aid, CPR, and other health-related topics as needed.

Arrange annual CPR/First Aid training for designated school personnel.Student and Staff Support

Act as a resource for students and staff regarding health and first-aid concerns.

Provide counsel and guidance to students and staff on health matters as needed.

Support or initiate student absence requests based on illness and document physician’s instructions for potential infectious conditions.

Track student illness records and monitor care and disposition of students who become ill during the school day.

Communicate significant health concerns to appropriate school personnel.Emergency Response and Safety

Administer first aid when present at a building or recommend emergency squad intervention when necessary.

Identify and communicate potential health or injury hazards to the administration.

Review current health and first-aid trends and provide periodic updates to staff and students.

Maintain AED in assigned school campuses.

Serve on committees related to school health and wellness.

Evaluation Criteria

Performance for the School Nurse will be evaluated based on:

Health Program Oversight: Ensuring compliance with all school health regulations and maintaining up-to-date student health records.

Emergency Readiness: Effectiveness in handling first-aid and medical emergencies.

Training and Staff Support: Quality and consistency in conducting staff training and providing health-related guidance.

Collaboration and Communication: Maintaining clear and effective communication with students, staff, administration, and families.

Professional Growth: Engagement in ongoing learning to stay current with best practices in school health.
