Position Overview:
The Applications Engineer II provides advanced technical support for CNC machinery, assisting customers both on-site and remotely. This role involves conducting time studies, machine demonstrations, programming, and process optimization to support sales and post-installation customer success.
Key Responsibilities:
Independently manage application engineering tasks while aligning priorities with team and company goals.
Design and fabricate custom fixtures and workholding solutions for demos, test cuts, and turnkey projects.
Troubleshoot complex machining and manufacturing processes.
Complete time studies and machining estimates with a 10% accuracy tolerance.
Program CNC equipment using conversational programming, industry-standard CAM software, and G-code/macro programming.
Set up and operate CNC machines, including multi-axis and mill-turn equipment, for testing and demonstrations.
Inspect finished parts to ensure accuracy and quality standards.
Generate engineering reports, proposals, and technical documentation for internal and customer use.
Set up and program coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) for part validation.
Support pre-sales efforts by collaborating with sales team members to understand and advise on technical requirements.
Train customers on equipment operation and best practices after machine installation.
Maintain regular communication with internal technical staff, external clients, and vendors.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering preferred, or equivalent hands-on machining and engineering experience.
3–7 years of experience in CNC machining, part processing, and technical support.
Proficiency in part processing, metal cutting theory, G-code programming, and machine setup.
Understanding of metallurgy and material behaviors in machining environments.
Strong multitasking ability and time management skills in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
High level of adaptability and ability to manage shifting project priorities.
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Strong attention to detail, organizational ability, and analytical problem-solving skills.
Willingness to work full-time with occasional overtime and travel as required.
