Fitter - Structural Steel Fabricator

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Structural Steel Fitter to join our fabrication team. The ideal candidate will have experience in assembling, fitting, and aligning steel components according to detailed blueprints and specifications. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine project requirements.

Fit and assemble structural steel components, including beams, columns, stairs and handrails, with accuracy.

Perform layout, cutting, and welding preparation on steel materials using tools such as torches, grinders, and drills.

Align and secure components using clamps, jigs, and other fitting tools to ensure proper assembly.

Inspect and measure completed assemblies to verify conformance to specifications.

Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and other team members to ensure efficient workflow.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety regulations and protocols.

Report any material or equipment issues to the supervisor promptly.

Qualifications:

Proven experience as a Structural Steel Fitter or similar role in steel fabrication.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.

Strong knowledge of steel fabrication processes, including cutting, fitting, and assembly techniques.

Familiarity with tools and equipment such as oxy-acetylene torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and measuring instruments.

Ability to perform precise measurements using calipers, tape measures, and other tools.

Basic welding skills (preferred but not required).

Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy materials and work in various conditions.

Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to OSHA regulations.

High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in steel fabrication is a plus.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with rigging and crane operations.

Knowledge of AWS (American Welding Society) standards.

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
