Reporting to the Manager of the Eastern Agricultural Research Station at Caldwell, Ohio, assists with general operations, station upkeep, facilities and machinery maintenance; builds and repairs fences; performs daily animal care; performs animal health and welfare according to SOPs and under the guidance of attending veterinarian; assists with breeding and handling livestock; assists in production and harvest of forages; performs field operations to establish, maintain, and harvest pastures and forage experiments according to project protocols; works adjusted schedules during calving/lambing/breeding seasons, weekend and holiday feeding, and harvest according to weather, soil and crops conditions. Assists with implementation of livestock research and outreach programs; works collaboratively with manager, Animal Sciences faculty, graduate students and staff in planning and implementing research on beef cattle and sheep nutrition, reproductive efficiency, forage utilization, and other agricultural and environmental sciences research topics; applies experimental treatments, collects data and samples under the guidance of principal investigators per experimental protocols; operates, calibrates, adjusts and repairs agricultural machinery and specialized research equipment; reports observations that may affect experimental results; interacts and carries out other duties on behalf of investigators; must stay current with OSU-required web-based trainings. Assists with instruction of seasonal employees. Keeps detailed records of operations and experimental treatment parameters; assists with field days and other public events; occasionally performs similar duties at other research locations as required; Position located at Caldwell, Ohio.
Min Education:
High School Diploma or GED (required). Minimum 2 years’ experience in large animal production; experience in Microsoft Office and email; excellent communication and collaboration skills; operation of agricultural machinery; Ohio Drivers License; operation of truck and livestock trailer; ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical work for extended periods.
Experience Desired: Associate’s degree in Animal Science desired or equivalent experience.
