Come see what you’re missing. Our employees work on the world’s most advanced electronics – from detecting threats for F-35 pilots to illuminating the night for soldiers. Spanning air, land, sea, and space, we are developing the technology of tomorrow, delivered today. Drawing strength from our differences, we’re innovating for the future. And you can, too.

We put our customers first – exemplified by our mission: “We Protect Those Who Protect Us®.” Sound like a team you want to be a part of? Come build your career with BAE Systems. Our engineers are the lifeblood of our company and we’re more than 5,000 strong. With our robust offering of educational and career development opportunities, your chances to grow are limitless.

The New Jersey Business Center (NJBC) is seeking a Software Engineering Leader to provide functional management / supervisory leadership and engagement to a diverse group of software managers and engineers. We are looking for an individual with strong leadership skills who can attract, engage, and retain talent. As a functional supervisor, you will manage other supervisors and support and advocate for your software engineering staff through career planning, training, timely performance feedback, formal performance appraisals, program staffing, and application of Software Engineering process and best practices. This is a multi-faceted position where your management/supervisory duties will account for approximately 30% of your time and your software engineering program tasks will account for the remaining 70%.

In this role:

You are a functional supervisor with 5-10 direct reports and 70-80 indirect reports who report to your first line section leads. Your direct staff will include several section leads, each with a staff of 10 – 15 Software Engineers.

You will ensure that the Electronic Combat Solutions (ECS) programs in the NJBC are performing within their defined budgets and schedules.

You will be required to support the technical design, development, integration and release of our Electronic Warfare software development efforts that are being executed out of the NJ Business Center.

You will provide guidance, support, and coaching to your functional group through regular employee one-on-ones

You will attract, engage, and retain high potential employees to support the program area

You will support staffing for your group including interviewing candidates, assisting with hiring and staffing decisions, onboarding new team members, and facilitating employee program assignments

You will develop employee goals, monitor employee performance, provide performance feedback and support group compensation management

You will identify and develop critical skills that align with your employees’ interests and are required to meet program area business objectives

You will provide effective communication – flow down / flow up within your group and across the NJBC software engineering organization

You will help drive performance for your group by supporting Program Managers, Project Engineering Managers (PEMs) / Chief Engineers, staffing and monitoring execution on projects, and helping to resolve technical and personnel issues

You will help ensure that programs follow company and program processes

You will contribute to continuous improvement activities to improve the software engineering organization and the company at large and ensure adoption within the organization

You will monitor software execution on programs through performance metrics, execution reviews, and meeting with SW leads routinely

Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform all work onsite due to the nature of this particular role, it will be performed full-time on site. This means work will be conducted on location at a BAE Systems facility 100% of the time.
