Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is seeking adaptable, flexible, team orientated women and men for employment as 'on call' Retained Firefighters in their local communities throughout NSW.
Retained Firefighters work from their local FRNSW Retained Fire Station, most of which are in regional and rural NSW, and are responsible for undertaking community fire safety work.
As a Retained Firefighter, you will be called upon to work closely with other emergency services such as Ambulance Service of NSW and the NSW Police Force.
Retained Firefighters perform a wide range of duties, as well attending fires and other emergencies such as motor vehicle accidents or chemical hazards.
Retained Firefighters undertake community education on fire prevention and safety to school children, senior citizens and local businesses.
Retained Firefighters are paid for attendance at incidents, training sessions, community safety and education activities.
Time commitments will vary at each fire station however, you will be required to attend two hours training each fortnight and respond to incidents to suit station needs.
Retained Firefighters play a crucial role in protecting people, property and the environment in their local communities.
Training is provided on an ongoing basis and covers all aspects of firefighting and rescue including basic life support, rope work, power tool use and community engagement skills.
Some of the requirements of being a Retained Firefighter are that:
you must have a current NSW driver's licence;
you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Australia; and
you must live and / or work within a few minutes' drive of the Retained Fire Station to respond promptly to emergency incidents.
