Job Description

Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Grounds/Maintenance Technician responsible for maintaining and improving the outdoor areas of the properties, including tasks like mowing lawns, trimming hedges, planting flowers, snow and debris removal, and ensuring the grounds are clean, safe and visually appealing. Also responsible for performing basic repairs or preventative maintenance when required. To do well in this role you should have previous experience in maintenance, be highly skilled with various hand and power tools, and be able to read repair manuals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Mowing lawns

Trimming hedges

Watering plants

Installing sprinkler and irrigation systems

Preparing outdoor areas for various weather conditions by weatherproofing, covering outdoor furniture with tarps, tying down unsecured items, etc.

Maintaining gardens and lawns, including planting, fertilizing, weeding, soil conditioning, mulching and applying pesticides

Operating and maintaining garden and landscaping equipment

Scheduling specialty services such as ground leveling or patio installation

Ordering supplies and equipment

Conducting routine inspections of premises and equipment.

Performing preventative maintenance.

Handling basic repairs and maintenance.

Repairing machines, equipment, or structures as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation.

High School Diploma/GED required.

Valid driver's license preferred.

Technical maintenance experience desired.

Understand tools and uses.

Ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts.

Experience with precision measuring instruments or electronic testing devices.

Experience performing routine maintenance.

Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work to ensure quality.

Follows instructions, responds to management direction.

Meets productivity standards; completes work in timely manner.

Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.

Must be willing to work overtime when required

Special Attendance Requirements: Employees will be required to workdays, evenings, weekends, holidays, split shifts, and overtime. The time of day worked, and days of the week worked will vary for this position.

Work Environment /Physical Demands:

Move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) with proper equipment and travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.

Familiarity with sprinkler systems and other landscaping equipment

Knowledge of gardening techniques

Knowledge of gardening products such as fertilizers and pesticides

Physical stamina and the ability to stand for long periods of time

Employee must be able to measure distances with a tape measure or other measuring device.

Make precise arm-hand positioning movement.

Lift arms above shoulder level to work in ceiling areas, light fixtures, or other objects.

Work in small, cramped areas such as ceiling crawl spaces, equipment enclosures, closets, etc...

Climb ladders or steps to reach work area; work at heights greater than ten feet.

Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.
