Position Overview: The Automation Technician is responsible for the installation, programming, modification, and troubleshooting of electrical and pneumatic control systems for automation equipment. This role ensures optimal system performance by adhering to schematics and implementing effective PLC programming.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Electrical and Pneumatic Control Systems
Install electrical control and HMI enclosures onto equipment in accordance with drawings.
Pre-wire and install electrical control components onto panels as per electrical schematics.
Assemble and install pneumatic control components onto panels following pneumatic schematics.
Final Connections
Systematically land electrical connections from control enclosures to process sensors, safety components, solenoids, and other electrical components as per schematics.
Connect air lines from the pneumatic control panel to sensors, actuators, blowoffs, and other pneumatic components in an organized manner according to schematics.
PLC Programming
Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC code to meet functional, quality, and safety requirements.
Inventory Management
Monitor and maintain optimal inventory levels of common components to ensure timely installations.
Identify and reduce excess and obsolete inventory; coordinate quarterly reviews with relevant departments.
Continuous Improvement
Participate in the development and implementation of SOP's, policies, and practices.
Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, safety, and organization.
Collaboration and Communication
Communicate effectively with team members and the Automation Manager to ensure alignment of policies and procedures.
Participate in regular meetings to review timelines, inventory, performance and address any issues or concerns.
Other Duties
Ensure documentation reflects current status of equipment and consistency with industry standards.
Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Supervisor Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications and Competencies Required:
Proven experience with troubleshooting and repairing electrical circuits, instrumentation, and control systems.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
Understanding of electrical codes and standards
Familiarity with sensors, actuators, motor controls, and relay logic.
Knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting
Experience with HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems
Basic knowledge of networking (Ethernet and Modbus) a plus.
Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and efficiency.
Strong observation and problem-solving skills to identify issues and develop effective solutions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively.

Education: Associates degree from two-year technical school or three to five years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
