The Phlebotomist provides expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation. Their ability to put patients at ease and obtain sufficient samples with minimal discomfort to patients across a wide demographic is critical to our commitment to high quality care for our patients and those of our partners.
PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES:
DESCRIPTION:
As a Phlebotomist/Specimen Collector, you will be a critical part of the quantitative drug testing analysis performed by our client.
You will be responsible for efficiently and safely obtaining urine samples from patients for the purpose of laboratory testing.
In this role you will be required to conduct observed and/or supervised specimen collections.
Observed Collections are those requiring observation of patient providing sample either by direct vision, through a mirror, or through a camera. Supervised collects are those requiring supervision of patient providing sample by being in the same vicinity as the patient.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitate the collection, processing and shipping of blood & urine specimens •Perform venipuncture to collect blood specimens
Observe & collect urine specimens from patients
Follow departmental policies to correctly identify the patient before any specimen is obtained
Properly label and document the specimens and prepare for shipment •Demonstrate customer service and compassion when interacting with patients, physicians, and clinic staff
•Communicate with, understand, and react effectively to a diverse patient population base
•Follow Universal Precautions and all OSHA standards when handling specimens •Strictly adhere to HIPAA guidelines
•Inform Supervisor of low volume shifts, unusual problems or deviations from established procedures
•Maintain neat, clean, orderly patient/work areas at all times
•Order processing & office supplies as needed
SKILLS/ ABILITIES REQUIRED:
A minimum of 6 months of recent venipuncture experience required
Verifiable track-record of providing excellent customer service
Reliable with a strong work ethic
Strong computer skills – must be able to work in multiple programs and windows, manage email and reports
Fast and accurate data entry
Communicate clearly and concisely with accuracy, credibility and confidence
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to stand for long periods of time
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
