FCS manufacturing is seeking a collaborative, creative and conscientious Vice President of Engineering to help scale our business, and serve our customers with integrity and joy. Successful candidates must combine strong business acumen with exceptional knowledge of industrial and structural design related to the dry bulk industry. They must also demonstrate excellent communication skills with experience leading and developing teams.
Job Description
The VP of Engineering develops, organizes, and directs engineering staff to meet customer and company objectives that integrate the customers’ needs with a manufacturable solution. They report directly to the President.
The VP of Engineering is responsible for the Engineering Department staff in project assignment, task management, and scheduling while working with the VP of Sales and VP of Operations to ensure customer needs and project deadlines are met.
The VP of Engineering will lead the team, while also managing their own projects working with customers, designers and fabricators to transform customer needs into a manufacturable solution. They will also participate in the executive leadership team, providing critical input for strategic planning and key decisions.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sales Support
o Providing concept drawings and models for discovery calls with customers
o Pre-engineering for estimating to provide accurate quotes to customers
o Attending tradeshows and visiting customers and job sites
Engineering Management
o Plan, organize and direct engineering team to meet departmental and company objectives
o Providing departmental and individual team members with Key Performance Indicators and SMART goals
o Provide structure for engineering team to triple from 4 to 12 team members over the next 10 years
o Lead, develop and train team members
o Lead daily or weekly team meetings
Project management
o Leading kick-off calls with customers after receiving project handoff from sales
o Send/receive information & navigate best solutions throughout project while meeting timelines for customer and production
o Working with designer/detailer to produce approval drawings for customer, shop drawings for production and support operations throughout the build
Engineering for Self-Managed projects
o Phase 1 Model/Approval Drawing
o Phase 2 Model/Approval Drawing
§ Check material lists & send to purchasing
§ Support purchasing
§ Identify new suppliers or materials when needed
o Structural calculations and/or base reactions for customers
o Risa 3D modeling and analysis
o Review Models when ready for Detailing
o Check drawing packages/CNC&FAB cut lists/cost lists
o Make video & release to production
Participate on FCS Leadership team.
Daily walk through the shop to understand production processes and quality checks
Develop engineering standards for sales and production to follow ASME, IBC, OSHA and ANSI codes.
KEY COMMPENTANCIES AND QUALIFCATIONS:
Demonstrate a deep understanding of 3D modeling, including master models and family tables specifically using CREO Parametric 3D
Experience with structural analysis of beams, columns, etc.
Ability to juggle multiple priorities of meeting customer requirements and designing a manufacturable solution under budget
Excellent written and verbal communication skills that can work across departments and integrate solutions that work for all key players.
Creative and enjoys solving multiple problems on a daily basis
· Design bulk storage solutions with modularity and manufacturing as primary drivers.
Understand and implement designs per specifications and standards (ASME, IBC, ANSI, OSHA).
Exceptional skills with Microsoft Suites, especially Excel
10+ years of experience in the Dry Bulk industry or other relatable industries.
5+ years leading design teams or engineering teams
Ability to travel up to 1 day per month on average
Work 45 hours per week with 4.5 day work weeks
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering
Current PE or SE license
Possess a Can-Do Positive Attitude

Schedule:
Monday to Thursday, 7 am CST – 5 pm CST and Friday 7 am- 12 noon
45 hours weekly on premise
Compensation:
$110,000-$140,000 plus various bonuses
