Duties and Responsibilities:
The University of Hawai’i, John A. Burns School of Medicine, Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is seeking a scholarly individual with a strong and documented commitment to research and teaching that will be a role model and mentor for our learners and colleagues. Faculty in this classification are expected to provide a minimum of 20% effort towards teaching, research, and service, respectively. Actual effort may vary based on the positions and department’s operational needs.
Teaching and field specific scholarship:
Conducting research in multiple fields of expertise
Publish two (2) papers annually
Successful extramural funding for projects
Teaching scholarship for undergraduate, medical, and graduate students:
Teaching load will include departmental courses in field of expertise as well as Instruction of Hawaii Pacific Basin (HPB) AHEC workshops and trainings
Provision of staff development within and beyond department.
Programmatic leadership:
Oversight of grant funded programs.
Grant writing.
Commitment to evaluation process across program at HPB AHEC.
Workforce research:
Conducting surveys in person and online.
Managing resources for volunteers.
Communicating with and overseeing volunteers.
Reviewing and tracking volunteer timesheets.
Quality control of data collection.
Data Collection and Data analysis of workforce research.
Compiling and analyzing existing data.
Research training for Middle school through Graduate school students:
Conducting focus groups.
Finding data sources for research.
Training students in research techniques.
Analyzing large data sets using best statistical methods.
Coordinating with students to make sure they are performing data collection.
Tracking students long term for outcome measures.
Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in basic science, translational science, biostatistics, epidemiology or equivalent terminal degree from a college or university of recognized standing in a field relevant to the position.
A minimum of four (4) years of service as Assistant Professor in a discipline-specific circumstances.
Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
Demonstrated experience with publications in peer-reviewed journals in field of study.
Demonstrated experience with securing the competitive extramural funding.
Demonstrated experience with teaching courses at undergraduate, medical, and graduate levels.
Demonstrated experience with data analysis software SPSS or SAS, and NVivo.
Sound management skills and judgement.
Excellent written, oral and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively.
Flexible and adaptable to changes.
Excellent interpersonal skills and highly team oriented.
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated successful mentorship of graduate students within field.
Demonstrated successful mentorship of postdoctoral trainees.
Laboratory management experience.
Experience with curriculum writing.
Demonstrated experience in international networking and partnering with physicians.
