POSITION SUMMARY:

A plastic injection molding technician sets up, operates, and troubleshoots injection molding machines, ensuring quality and meeting production goals. They are responsible for mold changes, machine adjustments, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. They work closely with engineers and other technicians to optimize production, improve quality and maintain equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Requirements:

High School minimum, Technical Degree a plus.

Experience Requirements:

• Ideally 3-4 years of experience in a Medical Device manufacturing environment.

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Strong attention to detail; demonstrated sense of urgency.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team: Effectively collaborating with other team members and supervisors.

• Setting up and starting injection molding machines: This includes loading/installing/changing molds with limited amount of machine down time. Adjust machine parameters and verifying settings for optimal performance. Ensure machines are set to the correct parameters for temperature, pressure, and cycle time.

• Operating and monitoring injection molding machines: This involves closely observing the process, making adjustments as needed, and ensuring production runs smoothly.

• Perform Validations of new products and molds (IQ/OQ/PQ) including DOE

• Preferred knowledge of Sodick-Plustech molding machines.

• Troubleshooting equipment and tooling issues: Identifying and resolving problems with machines, molds, or materials to prevent downtime and maintain production.

• Documenting mold changes and machine adjustments: Keeping records of settings, troubleshooting steps, and other relevant information.

• Performing inspections: Checking molded parts for defects and ensuring quality standards are met. Inspect finished products for quality, ensuring they meet specifications.

• Maintaining a clean and safe work environment: This includes cleaning machines, tools, and the surrounding area, as well as adhering to safety protocols.

• Understanding blueprint reading: Interpreting blueprints to ensure parts are manufactured to specifications.

• Following safety protocols: This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), understanding and following safety procedures, and reporting any safety hazards.

Computer skills: Ability to use computers for reporting, data entry, and other tasks. Including SAP or ERP system.

Physical Requirements:

o Must be able to reach into machines for tooling changes and adjustments and be able to perform general maintenance.

o Ability to lift up to 55 pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform other physical tasks.

o The employee is frequently required to climb ladders, kneel, crouch or crawl as required during the manufacturing inspection, and testing of medical components and products.

Internal: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, effectively collaborating with other team members and supervisors.

Travel requirements: N/A (potential for a one-off Memphis Visit or Learning Center)

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

• Prior experience in injection molding: Ideally 3-4 years of experience in a Medical Device manufacturing environment.

• Knowledge of injection molding processes: Understanding material properties, mold design, machine settings, and troubleshooting techniques.

• Strong mechanical aptitude: Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment.

• Excellent attention to detail: Accurately following instructions and ensuring quality.
