POSITION SUMMARY

Oversees all functions pertaining to the Pipe department. Plans, directs, or coordinates the work activities and resources in the pipe department necessary for new construction and repairs in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications. Examples of pipe systems include, but are not limited to hydraulic, pneumatic, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, industrial production, processing systems, steam equipment, pipe supports, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping fixtures. Assigns workers to specific duties. Inspects completed processing systems to determine conformance to specifications. Trains new workers in use of equipment and tools. This job will require applicant to work outside in the presence of fumes, chemicals, and dust.

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in a variety of pipe fitting tasks. Supervises (including hiring, orienting, training, evaluating, and discharging) the pipefitters to ensure they receive the training and support required for optimal performance. Maintains up-to-date supervision records on each employee. Completes all staff evaluations and any required staff disciplinary actions as requested and on time. Responsible for ensuring excellent customer service and performance by subordinate staff.

Key Performance Indicators (KPI) are as follows: pipe components of the ship either repair or new builds are completed on time, to specifications, and within scope of the project 100% of the time; ensures staffing levels are adequate to meet the deadlines; follows up with team members to ensure that they have proper training and tools to complete their jobs; completes all training assigned on time 100% of the time; and ensures that team has completed their training 95% of the time.

Essential Functions

Directs and coordinate pipe department of St. Johns Ship Building's projects.

Meets or exceeds the production deadlines for the pipe department.

Ensures that the pipe department budget is meets or exceeds goals.

Review pipe production schedules and production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.

Review operations and confer with technical or executive staff to resolve production or employee problems.

Determine sequence of installations by reading plans and working drawings

Supervise pipefitting crew in safe installation and assembly of all aspects of piping systems

Perform field take-offs and jobsite material inventories

Inspect work in progress and completed work to insure conformance to specifications and local codes

Complete and maintain work site paperwork to include, but not limited to, time off request forms, accident reports, material requisitions, RFI’s, T & M tickets, daily logs, SDS sheets, log books, daily time card verification, weekly job site inspection forms

Accountability for man hours and material costs

Analyzes work orders and blueprints to determine information such as materials, type of operations and sequence of operations required

Evaluate production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment

Enforces company policies and enforces safety regulations

Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules

Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment, performance, and quality of the product

Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems

Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals

Maintains time and production records

Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of various departments

Shift supervision of 5-10 employees

Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of direct employees

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws

Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems

Adheres to and assures compliance with OSHA and company safety policy and procedures

Prepare P.C.P’s

Work overtime as required

Assist Management Team with manpower planning, as well as other duties

And miscellaneous duties as may be required.

Qualifications And Requirements

Candidate must have extensive experience in ship repair and vessel construction.

Candidate must have an intimate working knowledge of Mil-Stds 248, 22D, 278 and 1689.

At least 10 years of shipyard experience.

Problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Must have very good interpersonal and communication skills.

Education : High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)

Experience : Five or more years related experience . Prefer experience working in a shipyard. Two or more years of experience supervising subordinate staff, prefer experience supervising trade staff.
