Becoming an Alhambra Fire Cadet may provide an opportunity to earn paramedic school sponsorship through the Fire Paramedic Intern position in the future.
Our Volunteer Cadet Program is a great way for future firefighters to learn more about their profession from the inside. It's a way of separating yourself from your competition and improving your skills and chances of getting hired. It's not a guarantee. But we have a great tradition of seeing the cadets who work hard in the program getting hired by us or other agencies.
Essential Job Functions
WHAT IS EXPECTED:
Volunteer to work at least three 24 hour shifts per month. Cadets will perform all routine duties similar to those assigned to sworn firefighters.
CADET PROGRAM BENEFITS:
Working on an RA, Engine, or Truck Company on actual 911 emergency calls
Training, keeping your skills fresh and learning ne ones
Cadets receive the same training as our on-duty personnel
Making contacts in your profession and staying in touch with hiring processes in the fire service
The Alhambra Fire Department often hires exclusively from our list of cadets, improving your chance for hire
Receiving first-hand experience in fire stations as a volunteer cadet
Building your resume to improve your chances for hire
Qualification Guidelines
WHO IS ELIGIBLE:
Men and women who have graduated from a state certified fire academy or have a valid Firefighter I certificate. Possess a current EMT certificate. Applicants must have a high school diploma, a valid driver's license, with insurance, be at least 18 years old and be a U.S. citizen.
Licenses and Certificates
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Paramedic certified, currently in a paramedic prep course, scheduled to start a paramedic training program, or currently in paramedic school.

Applicants with legal disabilities who require special testing arrangements must contact the Human Resources Department at least five (5) business days prior to the examination date.
