POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for directing the accounting operations of the company, to include proper recognition and recording of transactions, preparation and analysis of financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting processes, procedures, and records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the timeliness and accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Controller is expected to develop and maintain extensive knowledge of industry trends, products and competencies, along with current and projected market conditions. This individual will be responsible for the development of short and long range forecasts and budgets focused on existing and new markets by performing the following duties:

a) Manage the functions and activities of the accounting department to ensure the accurate and timely completion of financial reports including, but not limited to, monthly financial statements, forecasts and projections, annual reviews, and tax returns.

b) Manage the budget process and compile the annual and monthly budgets.

c) Calculate monthly and year-to-date variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.

d) Oversee financial operations including AP/AR, job cost accounting, payroll, general ledger, and cash flow management.

e) Maintain and produce accurate work in progress reports.

f) Recommend cost management strategies to improve bottom line.

g) Coordinate annual income tax return preparation and financial statement review by outside CPA firm.

h) Provide financial analysis as needed.

i) Ensure the proper preparation and filing of all necessary local, state, and federal tax filings including sales and use, payroll, fuel, and income tax.

j) Develop and maintain positive business relationships with outside CPA firms, banks, insurance companies and agents, and other organizations as necessary.

k) Maintain schedule of fixed assets and updated depreciation schedules.

l) Process sales commission statements monthly.

m) Ensure adequate backup for payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions at all times.

n) Oversee the risk management policies and procedures and identify key exposures to the company. Negotiate and procure property and casualty insurance and bonding requirements.

o) Responsible for upholding the values and mission of the company.

p) Manage cash flow to minimize line usage and take all cash discounts while maintaining accounts payable terms to preserve vendor relationships, pricing terms and company reputation.

q) Respect and maintain the confidentiality of vendor, customer, company, and personnel information.

r) Other duties as assigned by manager.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Ability to develop financial plans, reports, statements and manage resources.

Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.

Knowledge in tracking budget variances, preparing budgets and analyzing financial information.

Experience dealing with financial institutions and insurance agents.

Experience in implementing and managing accounting software.

Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to motivate teams and manage multiple projects.

· Knowledge of the general construction industry and the sub trades.

· Understanding of construction estimating and job cost methods and standards.

· Ability to communicate with all levels within the company

· Ability to perform tasks and follow directions assigned by the General Manager accurately and within the specified timeframe.

· Ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time while maintaining attention to detail.

EDUCATION

· Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting.

· CPA or CMA preferred

EXPERIENCE

5+ years’ experience of hands-on managerial construction accounting.

3+ years’ experience supervising personnel.
