Lattek Labs: Experimental Chemist – MOF/COF & Molecular Filtration
$125K base pay, 3% Lattek equity, and health benefits
About Lattek Labs
Prof. Omar Yaghi, reticular chemistry inventor, serves as our Chief Scientist and your direct supervisor. We partner with UC Berkeley to transform advanced molecular engineering into practical applications.
The Role
Join a deep-tech startup at the convergence of reticular chemistry, health, and design. Help develop the material foundation for a new product category by designing, optimizing, and scaling novel MOFs/COFs for consumer applications.
Responsibilities
Synthesize and functionalize MOFs/COFs for selective molecule filtration, particularly ethanol
Perform material characterization using PXRD, BET, TGA, FTIR, NMR, SEM/TEM
Work alongside Prof. Yaghi's lab and Lattek's product/engineering teams
Test materials under realistic operating conditions
Research regeneration cycles, stability factors, and consumer-grade formulations
Support IP development and scale-up strategies
What You Bring
PhD or MS in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering
Extensive hands-on MOF/COF experience—synthesis, modification, testing
Ability to iterate between design, functional testing, and application
Bonus: flow synthesis, polymer scaffolds, GRAS/safety, sorbent regeneration experience
Ideal: passion for translating materials from research to products
Tools We Use
PXRD, BET, FTIR, TGA, NMR, UV-Vis, SEM, TEM, flow reactors, gloveboxes, batch reactors
