APPLICATION ENGINEER

SUMMARY:

Perform those duties essential to meeting customer application needs. Work with Sales to verify and check customer requirements for specifying the correct product for the application. Prepare engineering drawings for details, assemblies, layouts, parts lists and perform engineering calculations. Prepare and check the accuracy of drawings and bills of material in accordance with established engineering and drafting standards. Consider manufacturing capabilities when designs, dimensions and tolerances are placed on the drawings.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

APPLICATION

1. Investigate, evaluate, and propose appropriate product designs for customer application of fans and fan systems.

2. Obtain and properly analyze specifications to determine required design factors.

3. Generate drawings and bills of materials as needed for production, prototypes and sample checking for accuracy.

4. Correlate drawings and bills of material with production to insure that all necessary parts, subassembly and assembly drawings are generated.

5. Make necessary layouts to establish correct dimensions of parts and assemblies of existing and new products.

PROCEDURES AND STANDARDS

1. Initiate and utilize engineering standards pertaining to product design and application.

2. Instruct design/drafting personnel and lab technicians on the necessary specifications, standards and procedures to follow on specific projects.

3. Complete drawing and documentation requirements.

4. Assist production in interpreting drawings for design intent (dimensions, tolerances and other engineering specification) when required.

5. Generate engineering standard sheets on drafting and documentation practices and assist in establishing data sheets on products.

6. Identify when information is not provided with the work request and contact the originator for clarification.

MANUFACTURING AND SALES LIAISON

1. Consult with other engineering personnel, manufacturing and service departments regarding product and process matters.

2. Contact customers, through the Sales Department, in regard to product design and applications.

3. Contact suppliers, through the Purchasing Department, in regard to new and existing purchased parts and specifications.

4. Participate on Continuous Improvement Team projects.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

1. Must have strong analytical and mechanical ability and utilize creativity, experience and sound judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

2. Familiar with a variety of fan and HVAC industry concepts, practices and procedures.

3. Must be proficient in use of typical computer software such as word processors, spreadsheets, and databases, and have a working knowledge of CAD (AutoCAD and SolidWorks) and FEA software.

4. Familiar with various fabrication and assembly methods, electrical and electronic circuits.

5. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

No direct supervision.

TRAVEL:

Local travel in the area may be required. Occasional overnight to seminars, branch plants and customers may occur.

CONFIDENTIALITY:

Handles design details and some manufacturing tooling and process details on a daily basis.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Over 3 years of applicable application engineering work experience.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

BSME or Associate's degree with equivalent experience in a technical field.
