Position: Senior Data Engineer

Summary:

Data Engineer, Enterprise Data Solutions performs activities related to building, maintaining, and enhancing the data platform: including development & support of data pipelines, transformations that feed the organization’s data lake, data hub, data warehouse, and data marts.

This role requires an analytical and business-oriented mindset with the ability to implement efficient, scalable, and integrated data solutions in order to produce and influence the adoption of strong quality data insights to drive business decisions in all areas.. Data Engineers are essentially software engineers who have a particular focus on data movement, orchestration, and data transformation.

This role partners with the Product Manager to understand business requirements and develops solutions to meet business objectives.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

● Design, develop, and deploy pipelines that capture data from production systems in the enterprise data lake

● Design, develop, and extend dbt code to extend the enterprise dimensional data models in the data warehouse

● Embrace the DevOps mindset through engineering production-ready solutions, inclusive of proactive alerting and error handling

● Works with cloud-based Big Data tools (StreamSets, Google Cloud Storage, Google BigQuery, Google Composer, Docker, Artifactory, dbt Cloud, Looker, and more) to deliver best-in-class cloud-native data solutions

● Works collaboratively with IT Operations team for operational execution and reliability of data solutions

● Assists in maintaining data governance through documentation of data solutions, through ERDs, Confluence documentation, or external tools

● Craft code that meets our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a developer-friendly data environment. Maintain and advocate for these standards through code review.

● Engineer & model curated and keyed Data Warehouse solutions that meet business objectives that perform efficiently and effectively

● Works in Agile product management method, managing tasks & objectives (user stories) through JIRA and providing updates to SCRUM master

● Partners with Product Manager (PO) to understand business requirements across multiple functional areas

● Support current Data Warehouse ETL jobs, respond to tickets and inquiries from business partners when data quality issues occur

● Other projects and duties as assigned

Required Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Information Systems or other related field from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 4+ years of proven work ability in data engineering, data analytics, or equivalent. Must have experience with partnering with stakeholders of all levels of the organization to plan and solve problems.

● Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following business subject areas: Store Operations, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Finance, Digital, Customer & Loyalty, Legal, & Data Science

● Track record of clearly and concisely communicating complex business activities, technical requirements, and recommendations

● Experience with Kimball dimensional data modeling a plus
