Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Maintenance Supervisor to lead the maintenance and upkeep of our production and facility infrastructure in Rockville, Maryland. This role is responsible for minimizing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and ensuring the safe and compliant operation of all systems. You will be the go-to person for troubleshooting issues, performing preventative maintenance, and coordinating external contractors when needed.
The ideal candidate is technically proficient, self-directed, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. Experience with coffee roasting equipment, Allen-Bradley PLCs, packaging systems, and industrial facility systems (including HVAC, compressed air, and natural gas) is essential.
Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Maintain, diagnose, and repair a variety of manufacturing equipment, including:
Coffee roasters (Probat, Burns, Diedrich)
Conveyance systems (e.g. silo-to-packaging line connections)
Grinding machinery
Rotary packaging machines, form-fill and seal machines
Pallet wrappers and forklifts
Conduct a root cause analysis on breakdowns and implement long-term solutions.
Program, troubleshoot, and make basic modifications to Allen-Bradley (and other) PLC-controlled systems.
Preventative & Predictive Maintenance
Refine and execute a proactive maintenance schedule for all production and building equipment.
Maintain maintenance logs and service records in alignment with SQF and food safety documentation practices.
Identify opportunities for equipment upgrades or process improvements to increase uptime and throughput.
Facilities & Utilities Oversight
Oversee the full day-to-day functionality of the facility, ensuring all physical systems and infrastructure are operational, safe, and well-maintained. This includes:
Mechanical systems such as compressed air, HVAC units, exhaust fans, and ventilation
Plumbing systems, including restrooms, sinks, floor drains, water lines, and toilets
Electrical infrastructure, including outlets, panels, lighting, emergency lights, and battery backups
Natural gas service, including supply lines, control valves, and safety shutoffs
Fire suppression and safety systems, including extinguishers, sprinklers, exit signs, and egress lighting
Building envelope and access, including doors, locks, dock levelers, overhead doors, weather seals, and windows
Perform basic repairs when possible and coordinate with external vendors for more complex tasks.
Conduct routine inspections of all facility systems to identify early signs of wear, inefficiency, or failure.
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free environment in alignment with food safety (SQF), OSHA, and local code standards.
Team & Cross-functional Support
Collaborate with production, QA, and operations teams to ensure smooth daily operations.
Support production changeovers, calibrations, and equipment modifications as needed.
Help create and enforce safety SOPs related to equipment operation and maintenance.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in food, beverage, or CPG manufacturing, experience with coffee roasters is a huge PLUS
Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control systems
Working knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLCs and industrial automation
Ability to read and interpret electrical/mechanical schematics
Skilled in Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) systems and documentation practices
Hands-on experience with food-safe maintenance procedures and sanitary design
Excellent troubleshooting skills with a calm, team-first approach
Strong communication and organizational skills
Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
Physical Requirements
Ability to work on ladders, lift up to 70 lbs, and perform physical tasks throughout the facility
Willingness to respond to emergency repairs outside of standard hours when necessary
