Your new role

The Structural Engineering Design Manager will be responsible for establishing and leading the structural engineering design department within the firm. This role requires an individual who is not only capable of managing a team but also actively involved in hands-on design work. A primary focus will be on acquiring new clients, building lasting relationships, and ensuring the successful delivery of structural designs for buildings, with a focus on concrete and steel structures. Experience with modular and wood structures is a plus. This position offers a base salary plus bonus based on the new clients acquired by the candidate.

Lead and participate in the design of structural systems for buildings, focusing on concrete and steel structures.

Manage the technical delivery of structural designs from concept through to completion, ensuring quality and accuracy.

Acquire new clients by actively pursuing relationships with government agencies, property developers, commercial clients, and other industries.

Manage and expand the client pipeline, ensuring a continuous flow of new projects for the department.

Drive business growth by securing new contracts, with a bonus structure linked to the successful acquisition of new clients.

Act as the main point of contact for all clients, managing expectations and delivering tailored structural engineering solutions.

Oversee structural engineering projects from start to finish, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.

Ensure designs meet the required standards and regulatory guidelines while meeting client expectations and timelines.

Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders to ensure timely and successful project delivery.

Recruit, mentor, and manage structural engineers and technical staff to ensure continued development and excellence.

Develop and implement best practices, design standards, and workflows for the department.

Establish departmental goals and KPIs, focusing on client satisfaction, project quality, and profitability.

What you'll need to succeed

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).

Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Florida is required.

Registration as a Professional Engineer in the US is a plus.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering design, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role.

Proven ability to acquire new clients and secure contracts.

Extensive experience in hands-on electrical design, not just in a managerial capacity.

Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical design software commonly used in the industry.

In-depth knowledge of local building codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements in Florida.

Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Experience with modular and wood structures is a plus.

A strong background in business development and client management.
