Job Summary
As a Leader in staffing and workforce solutions for the modern day business, the Surgeforce Group is a professional staffing and solutions firm specializing in temporary staffing, permanent placement and workforce management. We are currently seeking a full-time permanent Unemployment Specialist to work in our corporate office located in Columbus, OH.
The Unemployment Specialist/Paralegal functions as the primary contact for the gathering of separation information and investigation of claims. This position acts as the primary contact between the Offices and State Unemployment agencies and is responsible for receiving, analyzing and responding to unemployment claim-related documents within pre-determined time limits. Also must be responsible for handling hearings whether they are telephone or in person.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
Provide excellent customer service by establishing a rapport with the Offices and the state agencies.
Receive and prioritize claims, questionnaires, determinations and other unemployment related data.
Analyze individual case information by reviewing data accessed through the company database, from the investigative telephone calls or document images, to determine if the facts warrant a response.
Using the details regarding an employee's separation provided by the Offices, interpret and apply state laws and regulations in response to unemployment documents.
Respond to an office or state agency with all pertinent details within the time frame allowed by the state or departmental procedures.
Initiate timely telephone calls, faxes or emails to the Offices to obtain, document or pass along needed information.
Verify and analyze employee information stored in the company database prior to calling the Office to ensure that each call is focused and complete and Office's satisfaction is achieved.
Ensures work is accurate and complete, processed in a timely manner with proper spelling and grammar.
Performs any additional functions needed to meet the goals of the department.
Overtime is required in order to meet States deadlines.
Teach and train classes in person and via webinar in regards to Unemployment Procedures
Send weekly reports to Offices to motivate and inform them of those drawing unemployment from their location.
Send weekly reports to President and Manager of charges, activity and tracking.
Prepare and prep witnesses for all Hearings
File all documents.
Process all appeals and request for Hearings.
Appear on behalf of company at telephone and in person administrative hearings
All other duties that may arise to ensure the successful operation of the company
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 1-2 years of experience handling unemployment claims/hearings
Paralegal certification or experience preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet
Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with others
Ability to work with other team members as well as independently
Cooperative, team-oriented, patient, calm under pressure
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to provide excellent customer service to all clients (customers and employees)
Ability to advise, counsel, guide and influence the opinions and decisions of others (e.g. customers and employees)
Ability to analyze and evaluate people, data and things to determine courses of action
Ability to demonstrate success working in a fast-paced, highly competitive, deadline-oriented environment
Self-motivated with exhibited sense of urgency
Exceptional communication, presentation, follow-up, and listening skills
