Sous Chef
Goal: Nestled in the heart of Columbus' historic German Village, Sycamore is an all-day café and restaurant. Join our team of passionate hospitality professionals committed to delivering exceptional food, beverage, and service in a casual, yet elegant, environment. For this position, we are seeking a friendly, customer-focused candidate that can thrive in a positive work environment and deliver on high standards with enthusiasm. We are in need of someone who is willing to be flexible with working day and evening shifts depending on the need of the store.
Responsibilities:
Ensure food quality, presentation, and ticket times are at the top of your mind and are the top priorities for each shift
Fully trained in all kitchen positions to ensure staff follows standard operating procedures
Communicate areas of opportunity with the kitchen staff to continuously improve kitchen operations
Oversee closing procedures, including completing required paperwork, participating in weekly and monthly inventory, and ensuring the kitchen is properly cleaned and secured for the next day's operations if you are scheduled as the closing manager
Continued staff training on each shift
Ensure quality food leaves the kitchen in a timely fashion by scheduling in an hourly position, mainly on the grill line
Leading the team on the grill line to keep communication open and morale high and helping keep the team afloat by tagging in and out of stations that need help, re-stocking, and guiding during downtime with all applicable codes
Get the team to rally behind you on cleanliness, daily/nightly duties, and larger projects.
Maintain health and sanitation standards to ensure compliance
Qualifications:
3-5 years minimum experience in a kitchen position, cross-training preferred
Record of exceptional attendance, reliability, and scheduling flexibility
Attention to detail and desire to lead others by example
Experience with all kitchen equipment and a general understanding of its mechanics
Ability to communicate effectively with hourly team members and managers
Work Environment:
This position is full-time, hourly, and 100% in-person
This position reports directly to the culinary innovation and restaurants operation lead
