Location and Work
This position is available remotely, or at either our Emerald Isle, NC or Independence, OH offices, with a preference for those available for work during Eastern Time zone hours.

About the Position and the Team
The Staff Quality Engineer serves as a technical testing leader and subject matter expert who drives quality initiatives across one or more product development teams. This role bridges the gap between business requirements and technical implementation, ensuring the delivery of high-quality software through effective testing strategies, automation, and tools.
Responsibilities
Performing analysis in collaboration with product owners, engineers, UI/UX, and stakeholders to understand business goals and translate them into comprehensive testing strategies.
Designing and maintaining effective test strategies that encompass functional, performance, security, and user experience considerations.
Building and maintaining test automation frameworks while following established standards and patterns.
Writing and maintaining manual and automated test cases.
Evaluating and improving application testability while identifying and implementing solutions for quality improvements.
Managing test data and environments to support both manual and automated testing efforts.
Conducting thorough investigations and explorations to deepen product knowledge and share insights with the team.
Collaborating with UI/UX designers to ensure optimal user experience and accessibility standards are met.
Identifying and managing quality-related risks and working with stakeholders to develop mitigation strategies.
Contributing to and maintaining clear, well-organized test documentation and coverage metrics.
Analyzing defect patterns and working with teams to implement preventive measures.
Providing feedback on CI/CD processes and their impact on product quality.

Qualifications and Skills Required
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years in software testing and quality assurance, with a focus on both manual and automated testing.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern software development practices.
Experience with test data management and test environment configuration and management.
Experience with performance testing tools (e.g., LoadRunner, JMeter).
Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
Coding & Test Automation
Expertise in test automation development, frameworks, and tools, with a deep understanding of testing best practices.
Proficiency in 2 or more programming languages (such as Ruby, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java), with the ability to write clean and maintainable test code.
Quality & Testing
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Strong understanding of risk-based testing approaches.
Understanding of software architecture and its impact on testing strategies.
Proven track record of improving testing processes and methodologies.
Teamwork
Experience working in an agile environment, collaborating effectively within one or more development teams.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide other team members.
Excellent communication skills with ability to work effectively across different teams.
