SCOPE OF POSITION
Neurodiagnostic services encompass all technical functions with the Electroencephalography (EEG), Continuous EEG monitoring (ICU/cEEG), Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), Epilepsy Surgery, and Evoked Potential (EP). The laboratories are diagnostic areas for the Department of Neurology for patients with suspected neurologic injury and/or disease. The EMU is the in-patient diagnostic area for patients with suspected epilepsy. The outpatient EEG laboratory is staffed Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with 24-hour, 7 day per week coverage for inpatient EEG services.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the medical direction of a physician and under the direct or general supervision of manager and/or the lead Electroneurodiagnostic technologist, the clinical educator will be responsible for design, implementation and development of personnel and students in Neurodiagnostic procedures, protocols, and quality testing. The educator will assure that professional content of the program remains current, and that all of the department educational goals and outcomes are achieved. The clinical educator has an in-depth understanding of current neurodiagnostic practices, required competencies, Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accreditation standards, excellent educational planning, commitment to staff and student’s success, and applies professional expertise to assist staff and students toward successful completion of training and ongoing education. Active credentialing in neurodiagnostics can include and are not limited to: electroencephalography (EEG), evoked potentials (EP), long-term monitoring for epilepsy (EMU), intensive care unit and continuous EEG monitoring (ICU/cEEG). The Neurodiagnostic clinical educator provides a supportive and professional environment for students and staff and sets a positive example with membership / participation in professional organizations. The educator will also be expected to remain clinically active to perform a wide variety of neurodiagnostic procedures on patients with suspected neurologic injury and disease and monitors patients for seizure or other neurological disorders.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification through the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists in one of the following is required: EEG, EP, EMG, IOM, Autonomics. 2 years of relevant experience required. 4-6 years of relevant experience preferred.
