Now Hiring: On-Call American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter – Government Contract

Location: Washington, D.C. Metro Area (West Bethesda, MD)

Position Type: On-Call / As-Needed

Clearance: U.S. Citizens only – Must be eligible for access to government facilities

Start Date: Immediate upon award

Overview:

Augustine Angels is seeking experienced on-call American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to support a federal contract with the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD). This role provides interpreting, transliterating, and sight translation services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (HoH) personnel in both in-person and virtual settings.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide ASL interpreting, transliterating, and sight translation services for Deaf/HoH employees

Accurately interpret in both voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice scenarios using ASL, PSE, MCE, Contact Sign, or Oral Transliteration

Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times

Be available for scheduled events and respond to short-notice interpreting needs (24-hour turnaround)

Arrive on-site at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled assignments

Requirements:

Must reside within 50 miles of Washington, D.C. Metro area

Must be fluent in ASL with a minimum of 3 years of professional interpreting experience

Current, valid certification from RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) required

Must uphold the Code of Professional Conduct (CPC)

Demonstrated ability to convey nuance, tone, and meaning effectively

Skilled in interpreting for a variety of communication modes and settings

Must pass internal screening for language fluency and ethical competence

Additional Details:

Assignments may occur on-site (9500 MacArthur Blvd, West Bethesda, MD) or virtually (via MS Teams or similar platforms)

Must have reliable internet access for virtual assignments

Must be a U.S. Citizen and pass facility access requirements
