Job Summary

The Child Development Program Assistant will assist both the Lunch Program Coordinator and Child Programming Coordinator by supervising and maintaining the kitchen before, during, and after lunch service as well as working directly with the after-school care and summer camp programs. The Program Assistant will engage in some program/activity planning, family communication, and relationship building with students, families, and other departments on campus.

This is a 12-month, year-round position.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$17.00 - $19.00 per hour

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

Previous work, volunteer, or internship experience that required regular interaction with children.

Valid U.S. driver’s license

Food sanitation certificate within first 6 months of employment.

ISU Vehicle Driver Certificate within first 6 months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Food service experience

Experience with planning and implementing crafts and activities

Work Hours

7.5 hours per day with a flexible schedule; typical work hours are 9:15am-5:15pm Monday through Friday

Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

Move about in various locations throughout Metcalf, as well as on and off campus as needed to complete day-to-day work

Lift up to 50 pounds

Effectively communicate on a daily basis

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.

The final candidate for this position will be required to provide a copy of their valid U.S. driver's license. Human Resources will contact the final candidate at the appropriate time to obtain a copy of this document.
