Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent plus Pairourou designation and Pwo Ceremony, which are recognized as specialized certifications equivalent to advanced academic credentials in Micronesian seafaring, validated by UNESCO’s safeguarding of Micronesian wayfinding as intangible cultural heritage. Mastery of traditional seafaring rites through completion of Adjei or inaugural voyage. 5-10 years of providing instruction and training in Micronesian seafaring schools, demonstrating technical proficiency in celestial navigation, canoe carving, and canoe house construction. 3-5 years of both short and long voyages throughout Mutau-uol, demonstrating applied knowledge of wind/swell patterns, oceanic currents, and therapeutic plant use. Proven ability to integrate ancient and contemporary Micronesian seafaring traditions, including oral histories, chant protocols, and maritime rituals. Mentored 3-5 Maritime student interns/apprentices in heritage preservation, focusing on practical skills transmission. Demonstrated contributions to community-driven events and activities that advance regional seafaring education and collaborative partnerships. Must be willing to teach online.

Preferred Qualifications

A master’s degree or higher in an academic discipline associated with Micronesian Seafaring from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent. Formal teaching experience at the university level. Participation in collaborative voyages and seafaring educational projects and endeavors. Experience in grant writing and management. Experience in preparing and delivering presentations related to seafaring, oceanic culture, and environmental sustainability in regional, national, and international conferences. Author or editor of publication(s) related to seafaring. Experience working and teaching in online learning programs.
