Definition
Under direction, is responsible for planning, coordinating, promoting, and evaluating programs, projects, activities, and/or special events in the Recreation and Parks Department; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work

Organizes, coordinates, schedules, and monitors various activities and special events such as weddings, corporate events, family gatherings, exhibits, festivals, lectures, concerts, theatrical performances, and classes
Researches, identifies, and develops marketing and publicity plans and strategies; prepares press releases, newsletters, fliers, pamphlets, public service announcements, and maintains contact with various news media personnel to promote activities and special events
Coordinates the use of department, program, event, and sponsor branding and event trademarks
Develops systems for evaluating programs, projects, and special events; monitors activities and prepares periodic progress summaries
Researches and develops concepts for various programs, projects, and special events and submits for appropriate approvals
Researches, reviews, and selects artists and/or performers to participate in activities and events; participates in the review and negotiation of artists’ contracts and riders
Attends various meetings and participates on boards, committees, and/or commissions to plan and coordinate programs and/or special events
Recruits, oversees, and trains volunteers and contract staff involved in programs, activities, projects, or special events
Prepares various reports, financial summaries, and correspondence; maintains records as required
Oversees the preparation of recreation and park facilities for use during special events; coordinates the clean-up and necessary maintenance of recreation and park facilities following events
Coordinates the provision of necessary City services for special events; negotiates, schedules, and monitors the work of contract personnel and service providers
Serves as a liaison to various groups, committees, commissions, and bureaus regarding cultural arts programming and special events; facilitates conversations between artists and cultural arts program participants or general art enthusiasts in public meetings, workshops, or activities;
Secures funding and in-kind contributions for cultural arts programs, special events, projects, and activities
May assist in the preparation of grant applications, budget proposals, and program descriptions for grants
May project and/or determine costs for the implementation of programs, projects, or special events.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience planning, coordinating, or promoting programs or special events. Substitution(s): Additional experience as stated may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

The examination process will consist of a multiple-choice exam weighted 100% covering Planning & Organizing, Reading Comprehension, Problem Sensitivity, Written Communications (English Usage/Grammar), Budgeting Mathematics, and Public Relations.
Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
