Introduction
The Maryland Department of Labor Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning is accepting applications from qualified applicants for the position to build an applicant pool for current and anticipated position vacancies. This is a professional position responsible for providing teaching and learning to residents of a correctional facility. This is an agency-specific recruitment for this specific classification and function only with the MD Department of Labor. This position could be placed in any classification within the Teacher Series. Salary and exact classification will be determined following an assessment of the selected candidate's education and MSDE Certification using the IEPP Salary Scale.

Main Purpose of Job
To create a classroom learning environment in which assigned Incarcerated students make measurable progress toward identified educational goals as indicated by the successful completion or requirements for the Maryland Certificate of Achievement in Adult Literacy and Life Skills and /or Maryland High School Diploma
POSITION DUTIES
Duties of this position includes but are not limited to:
Provide instruction in a variety of methods to include whole group, small group and individualized instruction consistent with the approved curriculum.
Plan and organize time, in advance, to provide for effective instruction.
Use informal and formal assessment tools to provide for reliable and valid appraisal of student skills and acheivement.
Maintain and submit program and instructional records in an accurate and timely manner.
Create a physical and interpersonal climate that is conductive to learning.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.
Experience: None.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
1. Experience using instructional and classroom management skills.
2. Experience teaching adult learning principles; and basic education subjects (reading, writing, math), and ELL.
3. Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals from various cultural, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Teachers in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification may be required to attend advanced formal training classes. The purpose of this training is to maintain professional job specific proficiency and current knowledge. Some training classes are out-of-State and may require overnight stays.
All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (LABOR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to LABOR/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
