GENERAL DESCRIPTION CDL DRIVER

Operates all wheelchair accessible, passenger vehicles to transport passengers within set schedule to specific destinations. Is responsible for passenger safety, comfort, and satisfaction, while insuring compliance with all State and Federal driving guidelines. CDL Driver's are eligible for the City of Hobbs CDL incentive.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION NON-CDL DRIVER

Operates any wheelchair accessible, fourteen (14) passenger or less vehicle to transport passengers within set schedule to specific destinations. Is responsible for passenger safety, comfort, and satisfaction, while insuring compliance with all State and Federal driving guidelines.

Essential Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assists passengers with packages, getting on or off the bus, operates hydraulic wheelchair lifts to assist disabled or elderly passengers as needed, insuring passengers are buckled and hold down straps are secured.

Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort. Collects fares, dispenses passes and maintains an accurate accounting of receipts.

Inspects each bus at the beginning and end of each shift, checking fluid levels, battery, hoses, brakes and brake lights, turn signal indicators, dash lights, horn, wipers and washers, fans, mirrors, wheels and tire pressure, emergency door, fire extinguisher and first aid kit.

Ensures that vehicle is clean, inside and out, windows are not cracked, seats are not torn, and wheelchair lift works properly.

Keeps time and mileage records of pick-up and drop off of each passenger. Must be able to recognize, create and follow logical sequences for picking up and dropping off passengers in an efficient manner. Completes daily paperwork.

Utilizes mobile base radio to receive schedule changes in passenger destinations. Assists in dispatching as needed.

Assists in cleaning the office and break room areas.

Provides information or answers questions relating to Hobbs Express service policies.

Advises supervisor of any vehicle malfunctions.

Dispenses advertising merchandise, such as pens, pencils, brochures, magnets, key chains, passes and bookmarks.

Must be able to work weekends.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

May serve on various employee committees, as required and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

This position is subject to the City of Hobbs' Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes one or more of the following: pre-employment testing, post- accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing and follow-up testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS CDL DRIVER

Education and Experience:

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent preferred. Previous public contact work experience preferred.

Licensing and Certifications:

Valid (A, B or C) CDL driver's license is required. Ability to obtain a passenger vehicle endorsement within 60 days of initial hire is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS NON-CDL DRIVER

Education and Experience:

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent preferred. Previous public contact work experience preferred.

Licensing and Certifications:

Valid driver's license is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR CDL ANDS NON-CDL DRIVERS

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Considerable knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, rules, driving courtesies and good knowledge of geographical area.

Ability to obtain First Aid, CPR, Defensive Driving certifications and any federal or state required training standards.

Ability to work on Saturdays and/or ability to report to duty on short notice and maintain a good attendance record.

Ability to provide high quality customer service, maintain self-control and remain calm while dealing courteously, tactfully, and cooperatively with the public, including those who are under stress, and who may be angry, hostile, verbally aggressive, or those who use language that would be considered inappropriate in normal business interactions.

Ability to diffuse situations as needed.

Ability to work and relate to others in a wide variety of situations.

Ability to operate a transit vehicle in a safe manner while maintaining awareness of other vehicles in congested traffic, radio traffic, and passenger conduct.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and general public.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to noisy.

The City of Hobbs will provide 80% to 90% Heath Insurance Coverage from Single to Family coverage.

Employees are eligible for 100% short-term disability coverage provided by the City of Hobbs.

Employer PERA contributions 14.8% for general, 28.775% for HPD, 30.9% for HFD.

CDL pay - $6,000 per year (if applicable).

PTO accruals start at 12 hours per month (144 hours per year) and progressively increase based on years of service to 20 hours per month (240 hours per year) at year 21.

Bilingual Pay - $1,500 dollar incentive per year upon completion of yearly proficiency test.

Education Incentive - ($1,000, $4,000, $6,000 dollars - Associates, Bachelor's, Masters; degree must be relevant to position and above the current minimum requirements of the held position).

Longevity Pay - Begins at the completion of 10 years of service. Gradually increased.

Retention Incentive - $600 incentive yearly with years 1-9 of completed service

13 Paid Holidays.

Bereavement Leave - 5 days per calendar year per personnel rules guidelines.

Military Leave - (120 hours per year for general, 183.75 per year for HPD, 360 hours per year for HFD).
