Our Top Candidates will bring at least five years of experience working in a very busy retail optical environment with at least 3 of those years in a management/supervisory role. ABOC is highly preferred.

The Role: The Optical Manager will be responsible for the optical services, revenue generation, and product inventory within the clinical and multi-specialty medical office while also managing the day-to-day related tasks. The responsibilities of this role include a variety of administrative duties, such as conducting performance reviews, handling payroll, creating staff schedules, and processing insurance claims. Ensuring that excellent service is offered to every patient, the optical manager will demonstrate exceptional leadership skills by developing a dynamic team of opticians and supportive staff through hiring, training, and coaching efforts. Additionally, the optical manager is tasked with managing expenses and controlling the cost of goods while adhering to the allocated budget. This position will require working in partnership with the optical regional director, operational leadership, and ESP personnel, demonstrating that a cooperative interaction between all departments brings success.
Responsibilities
Identify, recruit, and hire top talent that will deliver excellent service to all patients
Initiate appropriate and timely training for all optical team members to ensure they have the necessary tools and expertise to provide exceptional customer service to all patients
Sets performance standards for tasks, jobs, and roles of their employees
Ensure all patients are greeted and acknowledged upon arrival
Ensure prompt and courteous phone answering with a commitment to retuning all messages within one business day
Provides ongoing training and support to optical staff so that they may fill the duties of their respective roles (e.g. optician, optical admin, lab staff, and supervisors
Strong business acumen with an emphasis on real time awareness of operational and sales objectives
Must be able to perform all duties and responsibilities of all positions within the optical department and a willingness to physically execute those duties when needed to support optical team/and or patient volume
Address all customer services issues promptly and with a sense of urgency
Monitor "in-stock" contact lenses, frames, and accessories for all locations
Reconcile monthly vendor statements and resolve any billing discrepancies
Must prioritize building and maintaining a positive relationship with prescribing doctors and operational leadership
Executes duties of position in a professional and courteous manner
Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner
Performs other tasks and duties as assigned
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required
Certification by American Board of Opticianry preferred
NCLE preferred
Experience with all types of lenses including soft, RGP, multi-focal, toric and Keratonconus
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, managers, and doctors
Understanding eye anatomy as well as normal, abnormal vision and perception
Basic computer literacy required
Excellent math skills that allow for precise work related to opticianry and sales (basic algebraic equations and monetary calculations)
Prefer 5+ years of optical retail
Prefer 3+ years supervising staff in an optical retail environment.
Proven sales experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience in a private optometry and/or ophthalmology practice preferred
Knowledge of processing vision insurance claims is required
Experience with EHR and EPM, NextGen preferred
Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Office

The compensation range for this position is from $27.00 to $31.00 dependent upon your experience relative to the position and whether or not you hold an ABOC
