What you’ll do at OhioMHAS:

As the Audit Supervisor, you will report to the Audit Manager. You will be responsible for overseeing the work of external auditors assigned to a specific unit within the agency. This position manages and coordinates field audits, management reviews, and audit assignments, ensuring compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations and fiscal requirements. The Audit Supervisor serves as a subject matter expert in cost auditing and plays a pivotal role in the development and implementation of audit policies, procedures, and standards.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision & Planning: Plans, schedules, and assigns field audits and management reviews to external audit staff. Provides oversight and guidance to ensure efficient and accurate completion of audit assignments.

Audit Review & Quality Assurance: Conducts final review of all audit work papers, memos, proposed exceptions, adjustments, and reclassifications. Ensures accuracy, compliance, and clarity of audit findings and recommendations.

Policy & Procedure Development: Develops and implements unit-level audit policies, procedures, and standards. Formulates audit practices impacting quality management and technical assistance efforts.

Technical Expertise & Consultation: Provides authoritative responses to complex cost auditing issues and interpretation of applicable regulations. Justifies audit recommendations and advises on procedural adjustments as needed to address complex or unexpected audit conditions.

Internal Coordination & Staff Development: Confers with audit staff to address challenges and clarify priorities and emphasis of audits. Offers training, mentoring, and performance feedback to auditors within the unit.

External Collaboration: Coordinates audit functions with other state agencies, boards, or commissions to ensure consistency and efficiency. Serves as a liaison for interagency audit activities and ensures alignment with broader audit objectives.

Budget & Resource Management: Participates in the unit’s budget development and monitors expenditures to remain within allocated resources. Ensures efficient use of resources and compliance with fiscal requirements.

This is an hourly position and is exempt from the bargaining units, with a pay range of 13 on the E1 Exempt Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm (hours may vary). This position is located within the Office of Financial Management, headquartered at the James Rhodes State Office Tower, 30 East Broad Street, 11th floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215.

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Position Qualifications

6 yrs. exp. in auditing or accounting which must have included 3 yrs. auditing exp. in accordance with auditing standards or in accordance with prescribed management policies &/or procedures as specified on agency position description; 2 yrs. exp. as audit team lead or auditor in charge.

-Or completion of undergraduate core coursework in accounting, business administration; computer science or related field; 4 yrs. exp. in auditing or accounting which must have included 2 yrs. auditing exp. in accordance with auditing standards or in accordance with prescribed management policies &/or procedures as specified on agency position description; 2 yrs. exp. as audit team lead or auditor in charge.

-Or 12 mos. exp. as External Auditor 3, 66463.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
