Scope of Position
The Cytogenetics Laboratory provides Fluorescent in situ Hybridization (FISH) and Chromosome analysis on inpatient and outpatient specimens received from the OSUWMC and other local and state hospitals and physicians. The CAP, TJC and CLIA certified Cytogenetic laboratory is recognized as one of the top academic centers performing highly complex testing utilizing advanced technology. It supports outreach testing programs, and educational rotations for medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty from internal and external institutions.
Position Summary
The senior clinical laboratory professional provides advanced technical or operational experience within the Clinical Laboratory. The senior clinical laboratory professional performs specialized automated and manual laboratory procedures, verifies and reports test requests and results, and is directly responsible for the technical quality of tests performed in the laboratory. Administrative duties include instrument technical requirements including validations, creation and execution of section competencies, section QA/QI responsibilities, technical procedure writing/implementation, assisting with scheduling, training and recordkeeping. The senior clinical laboratory professional works under the direction of the division director, lead technologist, and lab manager.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: Bachelor's degree in a certified Cytogenetics program or bachelor’s degree in a biological science, CG (ASCP) certification OR Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or biological science, MLS (ASCP) certification. Candidates must have 1 year of work experience as a Clinical Laboratory Professional or Cytogenetics Technologist 2 at OSU Medical Center in the focused area of oversight. Total years of service greater than or equal to 3 years preferred.
On going: Maintains certification status: meets mandatory education and health surveillance requirements. Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
