Central Ohio Primary Care is looking for a full-time Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT) for our Central Lab located in Westerville, OH. The Medical Laboratory Technician performs all phases of pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical testing in the laboratory. This position is responsible for performing routine procedures including preparing slides. The MLT assists in maintaining databases and record keeping to ensure inspection preparedness. This position is full-time, 3rd shift position, working Monday-Friday 12:30a-8:30a.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform waived, moderate and highly complex laboratory testing.
Testing conducted includes hematology, microbiology, molecular, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis
Methods include manual kit tests, fully automated analyzers and microscopy
Testing performed on blood, urine and other body fluids
Follow all policy and procedures established by Laboratory Director and Management team.
Perform calibration and quality control checks for all types of instrumentation.
Perform routine laboratory maintenance on all types of laboratory instrumentation.
Perform unscheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on all instrumentation.
Ensure accurate results prior to reporting.
Perform routine laboratory procedures such as preparing slides.
Process and prepare specimens for laboratory testing.
Perform phlebotomy procedures to obtain samples for laboratory testing.
Assist with supply inventory.
Maintain a clean and well-organized work environment.
Collect data, prepare reports, answer correspondence and compile statistics as directed.
Analyze proficiency testing material and submit results.
Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
Fulfill continuing education requirement by completing written assignments or attending workshops.
Follows OSHA guidelines
Maintains patient confidentiality.
All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Knowledge of current medical terminology as it relates to laboratory medicine
Required: Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and testing to perform quality control, calibration and troubleshooting of instrumentation
Education, Licensures & Certifications
Required: ASCP or equivalent certification as an MLT and/or A.A.S in Medical Laboratory Technology
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of computer instrument interfaces
Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results
Skill in performing a full range of laboratory tests
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public
Ability to read and understand information about instrumentation in the laboratory field
Ability to follow written protocols
Ability to work independently
Ability to communicate clearly
