Staff Software Engineer – Platform & AI Engineering

About the Role

Own a critical slice of Nanonets’ AI first document automation platform. You’ll lead a team of senior engineers, ship high impact features that touch billions of documents per year, and set technical direction across backend, ML infra, and DevEx. This is a hands on leadership role: 60 70 % coding/architecting, 30 40 % mentoring and roadmap ownership.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Delivery

• Design scalable, event driven micro services (Python/Golang), REST APIs, and low latency ML inference pipelines (sub 100 ms).

• Own end to end project execution—from RFC to prod rollout and post launch KPIs.

AI & Data

• Integrate state of the art CV/NLP models (LLMs, transformers) into our Confidence Scoring and Instant Learning loops.

• Champion data quality tooling, active learning, and continuous fine tuning workflows.

DevEx & Reliability

• Evolve our K8s based platform on AWS/GCP for 4 nines uptime, autoscaling, and cost efficiency.

• Level up CI/CD, observability, and on call rotations; kill toil with automation.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Grow and coach engineers, run design reviews, enforce code health.

• Partner with Product, GTM, and Customer Success on quarterly OKRs and customer visible SLAs.

Must Have Qualifications

7 + years engineering experience

Previous experience working in a Product focused Tech Startup

Deep expertise in at least one of: Python, Go; proven design of distributed, fault tolerant systems (>10 k rps).

Production ML/AI exposure—model serving, feature stores, A/B testing, or retraining loops.

Strong DevOps chops: Docker, Kubernetes, IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation), metrics/logging stacks.

Bias for execution—comfortable shipping fast, refactoring later, and owning failures.
