The Construction Inspector plays a key role in ensuring that all construction activities comply with quality standards, safety regulations, and contract requirements. This position involves working both in the field and in the office to monitor contractor performance on projects of routine to moderate complexity. The role requires oversight of telecom infrastructure work including excavations, fiber cable installations, aerial strand, and the restoration of work areas. The Construction Inspector also assists the Project Manager (PM) and Construction Manager (CM) with various project coordination tasks and administrative responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Inspection & Oversight:
Inspect and monitor contractual fieldwork, ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
Supervise excavation, boring, placement of hand holes, aerial strand, fiber cable installation, and work area restoration.
Perform quality reviews and measurements of trenches, street cuts, restoration areas, and other construction components based on as-built drawings.
Verify contractor billing by cross-referencing field measurements with provided designs and drawings.
Ensure the proper clearance for electrical and communication requirements is maintained.
Project Coordination & Scheduling:
Coordinate with contractors, superintendents, and agency personnel to schedule work and inspection phases for timely project delivery.
Manage material releases and assist in scheduling and overseeing 3rd-party site walks.
Assist the Project Manager (PM) and Construction Manager (CM) with project planning and administrative tasks, including maintaining schedules and project progress tracking.
Quality Control & Compliance:
Advise contractors of violations or non-compliance and recommend corrective actions to ensure adherence to safety regulations and state-mandated safety procedures.
Conduct field inspections to assess quality control, ensuring that work meets the specified standards.
Recommend adjustments to construction plans when necessary to address field conditions or provide cost-saving solutions.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain detailed project records including daily diaries, materials notebooks, as-built plans, and pay quantity records.
Review and assist in the preparation of progress reports, work orders, and monthly estimates for project tracking.
Assist with uploading project documents, task advancements, and the management of documentation related to project milestones.
Participate in the bid process and provide valuable input regarding project specifications and contractor selection.
Collaboration & Communication:
Collaborate with Project Managers, Construction Managers, and various cross-functional teams to address project challenges and ensure that milestones are met.
Communicate effectively with contractors, vendors, and clients to resolve issues promptly and maintain project momentum.
Education & Certifications:
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Two (2) year technical degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field.
Certification: Valid driver’s license is required.
Experience & Qualifications:
Minimum Experience: Two (2) or more years in a construction-related role, preferably in telecom infrastructure, fiber optics, or utility construction.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with construction management processes and site acquisition procedures, including regulatory and permitting processes.
Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and technical documentation.
Understanding of wireless/telecommunications technologies and platforms.
