An exciting vacancy has opened up at an established law firm client of ours in Wellington that is seeking a skilled litigation lawyer to join their team. Working closely with the partners and broader team, you’ll play an integral part in growing the civil and construction litigation practice in the firm. Our client has a loyal client base that cuts across several industries in the private and public sector, both locally and regionally in New Zealand.

About the role
You’ll have a varied diet of work including dispute resolution, litigation, formal and informal proceedings, and providing expert advice on a range of matters relating to:
Building defect claims
Construction disputes and contract claims
Construction Contracts Act adjudications
Arbitrations and alternative dispute resolution
High Court and District Court claims and appeals
Insurance-related claims
Body corporate and property disputes

About you
You will thrive in this role if you have 3+ years’ experience in dispute resolution and civil litigation, ideally with some exposure to the Construction Contracts Act 2002. You will ideally also bring:
Experience preparing for and appearing in various courts and formats including mediations and arbitrations,
A keen interest in construction law and related legislation, as well as a foundational understanding of contract law,
Familiarity with debt recovery, insolvency, and liquidation procedures,
Sound drafting skills with experience in drafting e.g. submissions, appeals, defences, statements of claim etc.
A positive attitude, high levels of self-motivation, problem solving skills, commercial astuteness and exceptional communication skills,
Eagerness to work in a team setting and build connections with colleagues, clients and industry partners, and
Client management and relationship building ability.
