Job Description
The Senior Accountant manages the general ledger functions in the Finance Office, monitors and improves office work flows, assists in the preparation of year-end audit papers, reconciles various general ledger accounts, generates and distributes periodic reports for management, performs account/transaction analysis and research, and provides software support for the office.
PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages operations associated with the general ledger and monthly close processes.
Performs monthly reconciliation of key accounts, including the bank statements, and ensures that subsidiary records agree with the general ledger.
Primary person responsible for understanding and managing the accounting/general ledger functions of administrative software systems, including Colleague.
Maintains chart of accounts.
Prepares general journal entries, and review journal entries written by others.
Performs monthly and annual reporting functions. Assists with the preparation of year-end audit papers.
Generate reports, account analysis and research of documentation. Responds to requests for information and assistance with problems from the campus community.
Unitizes endowment fund for annual distribution of endowment earnings and prepare appropriate journal entry.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in accounting from a four-year, accredited college or university.
At least five years of related experience.
Experience in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel, and experience in Colleague (Ellucian) and Synoptix is a plus.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages.
Ability to work closely and professionally with others as part of a team; be flexible; pay attention to detail; work without supervision and demonstrate considerable initiative; communicate professionally through both verbal and written means; manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines; establish departmental goals and priorities; and contribute to Capital University's philosophy, strategic plan, and goals.
